(Bumelia lanuginosa var. rigida)
Chittimwood is a shrub or irregularly shaped tree attaining a height of 15 m with stiff, spiny branchelets. Mostly found on limestone of gypseous soils, especially along bluffs of rivers and streams in the Edwards Plateau, northern Rio Grande Plains, and southern Coastal Prairies. The fruit is mostly eaten by non-game and game birds and white-tailed deer browse the leaves and fruit.
