Scaled Quail Capture and Survey Technician (Internship)

Position Description

Seasonal position (May-August) to assist in a study researching the movement ecology of Chestnut-bellied scaled quail utilizing GPS transmitters. Research will occur on two private ranches in South Texas, roughly two hours apart from each other (vehicle will be provided for travel between sites). The primary duties of this position will be to capture and handle live birds and assist in deploying GPS transmitters on quail. Technician will also assist with Avian point counts on the ranches in May-June with the possibility of other duties, such as vegetation sampling and data entry, being assigned later. This position is funded through an endowed fellowship and the candidate will be encouraged to conduct a mentored research experience with support from graduate students and project PIs.

Qualifications

Students obtaining a bachelors degree in biology, ecology, forestry, wildlife or rangeland management, or similar field preferred. Must have or obtain a valid U.S drivers license.
