Ephedra is a small, low-spreading, leafless appearing shrub. Commonly known as Vine Ephedra, is most often found in gravelly, rocky limestone hillsides or fields, and in arroyos, canyons and ravines in conjunction with most mixed South Texas brush species. Ephedra is a preffered browse plant for white-tailed deer and livestock. It also provides excellent cover and/or nesting for numerous species of small mammals and reptiles.
