Four-Wing Saltbush

Four-Wing Saltbush

(Atriplex canescens)
Plant Type:
Shrubs
Four-wing saltbush is a drought and heat tolerant, deep-rooted shrub found in many soil and range types, including dry mesas and alkaline valleys, salt flats, prairies and hillsides. It is more common in the western half of South Texas and is a preferred, palatable and nutritious wildlife plant, especially during winter and times of drought. Four-wing saltbush is browsed by white-tailed deer and cattle, and the seeds are eaten by quail and various songbirds. It is also useful in erosion control because of its deep roots.
