Pigeonberry is a mid-size perennial forb found on various soils in brushy pastures, mottes, and bottom woods (usually in shade) in the Rio Grande Plains and Coastal Prairies. The fruits produced by Pigeonberry are consumed by Rio Grande turkeys, mourning doves, white-winged doves and various non-game birds. Javelinas will also consume the leaves.
