Shaggy Portulaca is a low-growing annual forb found common on sand, loam, and gravelly soils in the Rio Grande Plains and western Coastal Prairies. The leaves are quality forage for white-tailed deer, javelina and feral pigs. Scaled quail also consume the leaves and the seeds.
