Twisted Acacia is a thorny, low-spreading deciduous shrub locally frequent in chaparral in the Rio Grande Plains and southern Coastal Prairie.  Twisted Acacia is a common component of the South Texas brush country and is found in a variety of soils and habitat types in association with most mixed-brush communities.  Twisted Acacia is browsed by white-tailed deer, feral hogs and javelina eat the beans, and various birds, including quail, eat the seeds.
