Whiplash Pappusgrass is common native bunchgrass found on fine textured soils in South Texas. This grass commonly occurs in mixed stands with pink pappusgrass. These two species can be differentiated by leaf structure and seedhead structure and shape. Whiplash Pappusgrass is often a component of saline-alkaline soils in the region and is an excellent plant species for restoration of these areas. Whiplash Pappusgrass provide fair forage for livestock, and provides good nesting habitat for grassland birds. STN plans to release a blend of this species called Webb Germplasm Whiplash Pappusgrass in 2009-2010.
