Daniel Newman

Research Technician – SPEC Lab
Serving Since

After earning his biology degree from Xavier University as a then-current Brueggeman fellow studying panther conservation, Daniel worked for several years in natural resource management in his home state of Ohio. His first technician experience with endangered wildlife came in 2022 and 2023 surveying for marbled murrelets in the Pacific Northwest. Pursuing his interest in large carnivore research, he recently worked with the Nevada Department of Wildlife as a mountain lion kill site investigator as part of a prey-selection study with Utah State University. Having recently joined the SPEC lab as a camera technician in South Texas, Daniel is excited to continue field work with wild felids when he’s not swimming in the ocean, and hopes to pursue a master’s degree in predator ecology.
