John was born and lived in Whitehouse, TX until he was 10 when his family moved to Chickasha, OK. John graduated from Oklahoma State University in 2010 with a B.S. of Environmental Science. In 2013 he gained a M.S. of Natural Resource Management from Sul Ross State Univeristy in Alpine, TX. There he worked with Dr. Bonnie Warnock on a project observing the effects of wildfire on the vegetative and small mammal communities within the Marfa grasslands. John is currently working on my Ph.D. in Wildlife Science with Dr. Fidel Hernández on a multi-scale analysis of the decline in northern bobwhite and scaled quail populations across the Southwestern United States, specifically investigating the relative effects of habitat loss and fragmentation, weather, and predators on quail populations. He chose CKWRI based on the notoriety of the program and the opportunities provided by the institute, including working with renowned faculty and in an incredibly unique and diverse region of Texas.
