Robin Coker, Ph.D. Student
Robin is interested in using geospatial technologies to model habitat selection and suitability, environmental hazards, and population ecology. Her project at CKWRI involves integrating remote sensing technology and deep learning methods to classify land cover and habitat selection of various south Texas species. Hailing originally from PA, Robin grew up between MI and TX. Robin received a B.S. In Environmental Conservation and a B.S. In Mathematics from Cedar Crest College in Allentown, PA. While studying, she participated in field ecology projects describing desert ecology of the American west, tropical ecology of Brazil and Peru, and marine ecology in the Cayman Islands. Undergraduate thesis describing the effects of ocean acidification and warming on the development of squid. Robin received an M.S. In Environmental and Sustainability Studies from the University of Charleston, SC. There she worked closely with the Lowcountry Hazards Center and specialized in environmental and hazards modeling. Her thesis used GIS tools to model habitat suitability for squid under climate change conditions. Further field studies classifying water contaminants and pollutant encroachment on rural communities in Ecuador.
