Hogplum is a low, rounded, thicket forming shrub with light gray bark and twigs. Hogplum is a common component of South Texas brushlands that is found in a variety of mixed-brush habitats and soil types. Hogplum is primarily found on gravelly or rocky slopes and along washes and arroyos in the Trans-Pecos, Edwards Plateau, Rio Grande Plains, and the Coastal Prairie. Hogplum is browsed by white-tailed deer and the fruit and seeds are consumed by birds and javelinas.
