Kelly is from Brookfield, Wisconsin and received her bachelor's degree in wildlife ecology from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point where she also completed research projects on a variety of wildlife species. Before starting with the CKWRI, she worked for the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources as research technician studying greater prairie-chickens and also a wildlife technician managing habitat on public hunting land.
