Michael Kalisek, M.S. Candidate

Michael grew up in Garwood, Texas. He completed an Associate of Arts degree in agriculture at Wharton County Junior College in May 2020. He received a bachelor’s degree in range and wildlife management with a minor in biology at Texas A&M University – Kingsville in 2022 where he conducted research exploring avian disease ecology. Michael is currently pursuing his master’s degree investigating the microclimates in South Texas oak mottes and shifts in these woodland microclimates for ferruginous pygmy-owls. He will also evaluate historic, present, and future oak motte suitability for the species. This research will serve to inform and improve habitat management and conservation strategies for this rare species and its ecosystem in the state of Texas. Michael began his master’s program in the spring of 2026 and plans to complete his degree in the spring of 2028.
