Kathan Bandyopadhyay, Ph.D.

Kathan Bandyopadhyay is a Postdoctoral Research Associate with the Caesar Kleberg Wildlife Research Institute and the Department of Rangeland and Wildlife Sciences at Texas A&M University–Kingsville. Originally from Kolkata, India, he has conducted wildlife research across India, Namibia, the United Kingdom, and the United States, gaining experience in the field, laboratory, and classroom throughout his academic journey. He completed his Ph.D. in Zoology and Physiology at the University of Wyoming and subsequently held a postdoctoral position at the University of Illinois Urbana–Champaign. His doctoral research focused on the ecology, distribution, and coexistence of small wild cats in human-dominated landscapes across the Indian subcontinent. His research interests include carnivore ecology, quantitative wildlife science, spatial ecology, wildlife conservation, and the application of camera trapping, GPS telemetry, and ecological modeling to inform conservation and management. As part of the Feline Research Program at CKWRI, he studies the ecology and conservation of wild felids and other carnivores in response to linear infrastructure development like roads. Outside of research, Kathan enjoys hiking in mountains, long drives, football (soccer), world cinema, exploring new cultures/foods, and spending time with his two fur babies.
