Milkpea's are low, erect perennial forbs found frequent in sandy prairies and caliche areas in the Rio Grande Plains and Coastal Prairies. The leaves are an important forage for white-tailed deer and cattle. The seeds produced are consumed primarily by bobwhite quail, mourning doves, Rio Grande turkeys and occasionally non-game birds will also consume them.
