Texas Ebony is a densely foliaged, spiny, evergreen shrub or small tree. Texas Ebony is frequent in the chaparral brush of the southern Rio Grande Plains. White-tailed deer browse the foliage and the seeds are consumed by javelina, feral hogs, and white-tailed deer. Texas Ebony also provides excellent nesting cover for various birds including white-winged and mourning doves and songbirds.
